I want to start this off by explaining why I feel the need to start this blog of View of a Social Worker. I am currently a Licensed Master Social Worker working as a therapist in a crisis program with children. I do intensive individual and family therapy in the home when children are at risk of psychiatric hospitalization. This work is very stressful, very difficult, at times very thankless, but it is also extremely rewarding. Knowing I played some small part in a child's mental well being is without a doubt one of the best feelings there is.
However, having worked in the human service field for over 10, and as a social worker for two years, I have accumulated a lot of do's and don'ts over time. This blog will address parents', children and even at times other professionals. However, my goal is only to give tips and feedback on good practices of a social worker, appropriate ethics and boundaries and ways families can help each other communicate effectively. I hope this blog will help people make informed choices when choosing a mental health professional.
Any and all feedback would be greatly appreciated as I am new to this blog thing.
